Thales Portugal won a contract of 30 million for TGV in Morocco
Thales Portugal won, in a consortium with Huawei and Imet, a contract of 30 million euros to supply the global mobile communications system GSM-R to the national rail operator in Morocco, the ONCF – Office National des Chemins de Fer.
This solution will serve the first high-speed line in Africa that will serve the itinerary Tangier to Kenitra and that will involve a distance of 185 kms.
According to a Press release issued by Thales Portugal “the GSM-R system will be implement in Morocco for the first time. in 5 railways involving 712 kms”. “This is the first stage of a national project that is expected to be concluded in the next 9 years and that aims at installing the GSM-R in the whole Moroccan railroad network which in the future is expected to incorporate 14 railroads and cover 1,923 kms” adds the company.
Thales Portugal and Huawei will be cooperating in the implementation of the system and Imet will be responsible for all the construction involved in the project.
“ As a leader of the consortium Thales Portugal will be supervising the global management of the project and, given its wide technical and business experience, it will also be responsible for the design and global integration of the GSM-R system as well as for the associated maintenance”.
Thales Portugal employs approximately 185 specialized professionals and is part of a World Group that had 14.2 billion euros in revenues in 2013.
