Mota-Engil group obtains 113 million euro contract in Brazil
Portugal’s Mota-Engil construction group obtained a 113 million euro railway contract in Brazil after closing its second quarter accounts, the group announced in the presentation of its first half-year results.
The report released by the Securities Market Commission (CMVM – Portugal’s market regulator) indicates that after closing its accounts the group obtained contracts worth 560 million euros, the biggest being a 115 million euro contract for multiannual road maintenance and repair in Mexico.
In Europe the group obtained three contracts in Poland totalling nearly 125 million euros and in Africa several contracts in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and western regions worth 60 million euros.
In the first half-year the value of Mota-Engil’s overall business fell by 4.3 percent to 1.074 billion euros, 454 million of which invoiced in Europe. The rest was split among operations in Africa and Latin America.
This decline in activity led to a net result of 12.6 million euros from January through June, nearly 60 percent lower than the figure for last year.
The Mota-Engil group has significant business in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and the Portuguese-speaking African countries, particularly Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe.
