MINHO UNIVERSITY AND ZTE

Chinese group ZTE signed an agreement to establish a research and development (R&D) in Braga, northern Portugal, involving Minho University, the DST group and InvestBraga, according to a statement issued by the Chinese group.

The center will focus on developing and testing new services and applications in the telecommunications sector. The agreement outlines specific areas for cooperation including “intelligent cities,” urban sustainability, the creative industries, education, health, agriculture and public services.

In the statement the chairman of ZTE for Europe, Xiong Hui, said that Braga was the right region of Europe to move ahead with this partnership due to the “climate of entrepreneurship and innovation of excellence.”

The fact that the Portuguese companies that are also involved in the protocol have presented a strategy to approach the Iberian and European market also bolstered ZTE’s decision.
