Eurostat – Portugal was the second EU country where unemployment registered a bigger decrease.
Unemployment in Portugal fell from 16.1% in August of 2013 to 14% in August of the current year. Only Hungary registered a better performance.
According to Eurostat, the number of unemployed leveled in August (14%) vis-à-vis July (14.1%). In the euro zone, in August, unemployment was at 11.5%. The jobless rate for the whole EU was at 10.1%, the lowest since February of 2012.
Notwithstanding the promising results, youth unemployment in Portugal still stood at 35.5% in July (third country in the EU with the highest youth jobless rate).
